Cionaith Cullen provisionally booked return tickets with Aer Lingus by telephone from Paris to Cork on June 17th. Three days later he confirmed the reservation and after a further four days he received tickets for Paris to Dublin. Aer Lingus bookings in Paris then refused to accept that the error was theirs, and marked the tickets as Paris-Dublin, with an order they should not be changed. Cullen was then referred to a customer relations line in Ireland, which was "temporarily closed" each time he called it. Their Paris customer service number was no longer valid. An aerlingus.com reply to his e-mail of complaint simply confirmed the Paris-Dublin booking.

Finally, Cullen phoned bookings in Ireland and was told that the mix-up was his fault. His options were: cancel the tickets and lose 406; keep the tickets and travel to Dublin; or pay an extra €200 to change the booking from Dublin to Cork. In the end, he decided to pay up.

Pricewatch contacted Aer Lingus and, following an investigation, was told that it appeared a genuine error had been made in this instance and the company accepted it had always been Cullen's intention to travel to Cork and not Dublin. His booking will be changed without any penalty.

Aer Lingus apologises for any inconvenience caused.
