A reader got in touch about a difference of almost
€3 in the price of coffee. At Bewley's branch in Blackrock Shopping Centre, in Co Dublin, she paid 4.16 for half a pound of Bewley's Java coffee. The same amount of the same brand cost € at Cavistons in Glasthule, Co Dublin.
Cavistons says it realised the discrepancy itself only recently; when it contacted Bewley's it discovered that it had inadvertently been paying a catering rate instead of a retail rate for its beans. The mistake has now been rectified, and yesterday Cavistons reset its price to €3.96.
