Drums of Malahide plan to introduce a new series of twice-yearly furniture auctions, beginning next Thursday when English and Irish Georgian/Victorian-style furniture will be sold. According to Denis Drum, "even though the standard is good, the prices expected are modest". He believes that a set of 24 diningroom chairs (including two carvers) in what is described as the "Chippendale tradition" will make £2,500-£3,000 and a further set of 12 such chairs, plus two carvers, "in the Irish tradition" will sell for £1,000-£1,600. Other lots include an "Irish-tradition Georgian sideboard", a "William IV tradition partners desk" and a pair of library chairs "in the tradition of Mack Williams & Gibton", all with the same pre-sale estimates of £600-£800.
