The Communion Mass was at nine o'clock. I had breakfast before I put on my dress so I wouldn't get it dirty. I have three little sisters, too, so I had to be minding it. My Mammy made my dress and a bag to go with it. It was tied up with ribbons on one side and tied up with ribbons on the other side. I liked my dress. It was lovely. I had a veil. It was a bit longer than my hair.

We were learning about Communion since before Easter. Our teacher taught us lots of prayers. She told us not to be nervous. She was very good, I must say. Her name is Mrs O'Meara. We were learning about Communion and Confession together.

We had the Communion on our tongues during the Mass. I felt very nervous and excited getting it. My Mammy and Daddy and the rest of my family and my godparents were there. I was very happy to be making my Communion. It was like what I thought it would be. I was receiving Jesus into my heart.

We went home afterwards. Mammy cooked a lovely dinner. We had nine adults and five children, including me. We had prawn cocktail, garlic potatoes and salmon. We had a chocolate cake for desert. Then we went to the zoo the next week. I got cards and some money. I don't know how much: I gave it to Mammy. I think it was over a hundred pounds but I don't know. It's in the bank now, but I might be buying something with it sometime. There isn't anything I want now.

The best thing about the whole day was receiving Jesus into my heart. That was the best bit. I remember that bit the most.
