A large private collection of jewellery features in the most important auction to be organised so far this year by O'Reilly's of Dublin. Scheduled for next Wednesday, the sale includes an early 19th-century diamond, heart-shaped ring, which carries an estimate of £2,800-£3,000; a 1934 receipt for this lot from Wartski, Court Jewellers of Regent Street, London, is also available for £60. Other diamond pieces include a three-stone ring of 3.5 carats (estimate £7,000-£8,000), a Victorian bangle featuring 57 rose-cut stones (£6,000-£7,000) and a pair of large hoop earrings of three carats (£3,000-£3,400).

The highest expectations are reserved for a solitaire diamond ring of five carats which it is hoped will make in the region of £15,000-£18,000, but there are lower estimates too, such as the £1,200-£1,500 for a Victorian diamond and turquoise snake necklace and £1,600-£1,800 for a diamond and emerald bangle featuring 20 of the former stones and 19 of the latter.
