This year's Umbria Libri festival of literature in Perugia, Italy, has had within it a mini-festival of Irish writing. Among the participating writers have been Mary Morrissy, Katy Hayes, Mac Dara Woods, James Ryan, Cathal O Searcaigh and John Banville. Banville's reading generated long columns of preview interviews. The national newspaper La Stampa made a link between Ireland's economic energy and its creativity in its introduction to the Banville interview, which took place in The Irish Times features department: "Sitting at his desk in the heart of the `Celtic Tiger'," it begins.
