Once quite frequently offered for sale, good old fireplaces are now exceedingly rare, so it is certain that interest will be keen in a pair being sold next week, a detail of one being shown here.

Both fireplaces in white marble originally came from a house in Dublin's Merrion Square but for more than 30 years have been in a Malahide property from which they are now about to be removed.

Depicting a putto with chariot and horses, this is the centre panel of the larger piece measuring more than six feet in length and four and a half inches deep; the second piece also has a carved central panel. Both carry the same estimate of £25,000 to £30,000.

The fireplaces are being sold by Drums of Malahide, Co Dublin, as part of the company's monthly auction which also features an antique mahogany sideboard with brass rail by P Wilson of London.
