Red Riding Hood WaterTower****
Brian Reitzell and Alex Heffes' score to Catherine Hardwicke's new film Red Riding Hoodis dark, brooding and edgy – which is to be expected in a teen horror film, even an angsty one by the director of Thirteenand Twilight. What distinguishes it, however, is how successfully the award-winning composers ( Lost In Translationand The Last King Of Scotland, respectively) mix electronica, orchestral strings and post- rock drones to create a uniquely atmospheric sound- world. Propulsive, dynamic and occasionally melodic, it never quite resolves (despite the elegiac End Suite) yet remains defiantly romantic: despite the film's fairytale setting, two superb new tracks by Fever Ray and M83 (co- written by Reitzell) positively ache with agony and desire. Red Riding Hoodscares and seduces in the best way. See redridinghood. warnerbros.com
