Hardcourage is the sound of Drew Lustman staying well ahead of the pack. The New York-based producer has earned his stripes and gained nods of approval on the back of releases for Planet Mu and remixes for The xx, Scuba and Mount Kimbie. What's immediately striking about his new album is the emotive and evocative span of Lustman's bleepery. There are smart reminders of how electronic music got here – the opening Stay, I'm Changed has Detroit and Chicago tones in its bones – but there are also signs of Lustman's lustre for what might come next. She Sleeps has Friendly Fires' Ed Macfarlane throwing a Frankie Knuckles croon into an electronic torch song, Uncea shows Lustman can wring drama from the glitches, and Bells is a beautiful heart-throb of a love letter.
