Bugged Out Presents: Suck My DeckIK7 ***
There's no disputing Friendly Fires' bona-fides when it comes to teasing listeners with alluring house beats. The infectious (and remix-friendly) nature of their own material, Ed MacFarlane's back-catalogue of glitchy sounds for Skam, and the band's DJing nixers make Friendly Fires perfect hosts for the latest Bugged Out showcase. There's a strong leaning towards recent underground house and techno, with the euphoric thump of Tensnake's Coma Catand Tom Trago's sleek, beautiful Lost in the Streets of NYCworking well on that score. But there's also a distinct fade towards 1980s dancefloor with Egyptian Lover's Freak-a-Holicdusted off for another spin, and the robodisco bite of Stay Here,a new Friendly Fires' collaboration with Azari Ill, working that look. It'll be interesting to see if this mix is a signpost to or a diversion from Friendly Fires' next album. See myspace.com/friendlyfires
