Guitarist John Moriarty is probably best known as one third of Organics, the Hammond organ trio that blazed a trail through the Irish jazz scene in the last decade. A fluid, hard-swinging player in the style of Louis Stewart, the Dubliner is more involved than most in the sound he makes – as well as being an accomplished player, he is also a noted guitar maker. For his first recording as leader, Moriarty brought one of his own creations to New York and hooked up with some of that city’s rising stars, including pianist Randy Ingram, bassist Matt Clohesy and drummer Adam Pache. The result is a mix of originals and choice standards, including a sultry version of Wayne Shorter’s Fall, which is as well-crafted and polished as one of Moriarty’s archtops.
