Timber Timbre Full Time Hobby****
“Creep on creepin’ on,” is the watchword favoured by Canadian singer-songwriter Taylor Kirk and you can appreciate the heft of that motto on his third album. The mix of spinechilling folk, lo-fi, dusky blues and the more edgy elements of indie atmospherics has obviously been honed to near perfection over years, gigs and previous releases. Along the way, he’s learned that over-egging the pudding is not how to proceed when you have the right ingredients to hand, making for an album full of weather-worn songs that are wonderfully sparse and creepy, yet no less enticing for taking such a streamlined approach. Throughout, Kirk uses various aged musical trimmings, from spooky organs to campfire crackles, to perfectly underline his deep, soulful, other-wordly voice. See myspace.com/ timbertimbre
