Apes evolve on second record

Fight Like Apes have completed their second album, and plan to unleash it on the general public on Friday, August 27th. After recording their 2008 debut in Seattle, the Dublin- based foursome decamped to the London studio of Andy Gill, guitarist with post-punk stalwarts Gang of Four, for the follow-up.

“Fight Like Apes may be the best band I have produced in years,” Gill said on Twitter during the recording sessions. The new record continues the quartet’s penchant for extravagant titles: it will be called

The Body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner

. The band had to seek permission from Turner to use her name, but luckily the singer found it amusing.

It will be preceded by the single Hoo Ha Henryon August 20th. Other song titles include Waking Up with Robocopand Ice Cream Apple Fuck.

“It was an extremely fun record to make,” said keyboardist and vocalist Jamie Fox. “We got to go back to basics with Andy. We did the whole record live with an emphasis on energetic takes over perfect ones. Everyone we’ve played it to so far comments on how dark it is compared to the first record. We don’t feel it’s dark at all, just a hell of a lot better, and way more honest and personal. It’s not a more ‘mature’ album, it’s not ‘a progression’ – it’s just where we are as a band and as people at the minute.”
