It’s a bit of a mini-Oxegen except without the tents, muck, and lower-down-the-bill bands. Belsonic 2010 kicks off on Tuesday with a potential Oasis-in-waiting: Kasabian, a UK band with all the delicacy of a kick in the groin and an unwashed armpit. The following day sees a rather less frenetic display of songwriting talent from Scottish singer-songwriter Paulo Nutini, while Thursday provides what will surely be another powerhouse performance from Florence & the Machine, whose year this most definitely is.
It doesn’t end there, as the end of August in the same Belfast venue sees appearances from Paul Weller, the Courteneers, Biffy Clyro and David Guetta.
Who knows, perhaps the sun will shine? Stranger things have happened.
