Snap! The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) and the DIT Conservatory of Music both had the bright idea of beginning the year by presenting their students in a chamber opera by Benjamin Britten (above) to mark the composer’s centenary.
The RIAM is offering the comedy Albert Herring, directed by Lynne Parker and with David Adams conducting, at the Project Arts Centre. The DIT Conservatory has chosen Henry James’s ghost story
The Turn of the Screw, directed by Vivian Coates and conducted by David Brophy at DIT’s own Gleeson Hall in Kevin Street.
Remarkably, the two colleges have scheduled their performances for the same days, opening on Tuesday, January 15th, with further performances on Thursday and Saturday. The RIAM, however, comes out a nose ahead. It’s also offering a preview of Albert Herring on Sunday.
