This band has been through the mill: major success in the early 1980s, a dip in profile, perceived as yuppie numpties back in their glory days, and then – voilà!– they came back 10 years ago and have never been more successful.
The one-time “prettiest boys in rock” have, contrary to casual perception, never split up as a band. Rather, they’ve taken time out for various side projects and brief comebacks, despite being, for a few years in the Noughties, one of the most successful unsigned bands.
Like Take That after them, Duran Duran's career as a working unit is reflected as much in the loyalty of their fanbase as in their more recent material, which is streets ahead of their 1980s album output. Their new album, All You Need Is Now(produced by Mark Ronson, doing them no disservice whatsoever), has brought them right back in the zone.
Not bad, some might say, for former art school, experimental, post-punk rockers from Birmingham.
