Track of the week
is Cool Kids by Echosmith.
Ooh we’ve come over all indie in chez pop corner. This track by US group Echosmith originally appeared last year, but started picking up steam this autumn. There is more than a shade of Phoenix to this, and the sentiment of wanting to be “like the cool kids” is a bit lonely Gaeltacht summer, but it’s got a gorgeous little chorus. Which means that it’s been stuck in our heads for three days now, and that’s good enough for us.
Hero of the week
is Katy Perry, for calling out beach paparazzi. She explained to Twitter: “I was stalked by many grown men today as I tried to take a quiet walk on the beach . . . They told me to make a ‘deal’ with them. Give them a bathing suit shot and they would leave me be.” She continued: “This is perverted & disgusting behavior that should never be tolerated, especially by people who do not want this.”
Zero of the week
goes to some unappreciated One Direction gifts. Liam Payne told TV host Jimmy Kimmel about the worst gifts they’d received. “Remember the first thing we got? Someone had picked some mushrooms, cooking mushrooms, and they drew our faces on them and put googly eyes on them and they dressed them up as us. That was quite a strange one.” Niall added: “Remember the time we had the hermit crab? A live crab.”
Comeback of the week
Goes to S Club 7, who are going to do a full UK tour. If you were worried about the quality of Jo's vocals on the Children in Need medley, she had this to say. "It was the first time I'd performed in such a long time that my voice just gave out," she told Loose Women. No word for Irish dates yet, but fret not. Pop Corner is chartering a plane; form an orderly queue.
