What’s the story here? On one hand you have NYC indie types Vampire Weekend, whose eponymous debut album was released in 2008 to little commercial effect (it got to No 23 in the Irish album charts, so no whoopee cushion there, folks). On the other hand, you have the likes of Neil Hannon, Cathy Davey, Jape’s Richie Egan and Magic Numbers’ Romeo Stodart joining forces to interpret said album.

We like the sound of this; it reinforces the notion that not everyone can write great songs and therefore renditions (or, in this case, interpretations) of original material can have more of an impact. Beyond that – what with the rehearsals cloaked in relative secrecy – we’re not sure what to expect.

Casual observers of VW might know about the two main singles from the album ( A-Punk, Oxford Comma), and committed fans may not like what Hannon, Davey, et al do with the album as a whole. And the word "interpret'"can be, well, interpreted any which way you want to. But this is promising – anything that tries to do something different while simultaneously aiming to entertain has to have something going for it.
