Quartets dominate proceedings at this year's KBC Music in Great Irish Houses festival. The opening and closing concerts at Castletown House in Co Kildare are both by French string quartets (Quatuor Ebène tomorrow and Quatuor Ysaÿe on June 19th), and (above) the Fauré Quartett (a piano quartet, and German in spite of the use of a French composer's name) are at Killruddery in Co Wicklow on Tuesday.

The Ebène and the Fauré are involved in non-classical activities as well. The Fauré Quartett give a non-festival performance at Dublin's Button Factory on Wednesday, when, in an evocation of the Berlin club Yellow Lounge, they will play material from their latest CDs ( Wunderkind Mendelssohnand Popsongs), with RTÉ Lyric FM's Bernard Clarke as DJ, and video by VJs C-Division and 3-PIN.

Also in Dublin, in the Sugar Club on Sunday, is L'autre Ebène, the French group's unique take on jazz and popular music.
