National music day goes Love:live

Ireland’s first National Music Day is due to take place on April 16th

Ireland’s first National Music Day is due to take place on April 16th. Love:live music was set up by non-profit music services organisation Music Network, in conjunction with RTÉ Lyric FM, and aims to “demonstrate first hand the wealth of imagination involved in the creation and performance of music in Ireland”, says manager Aisling Ryan.

On the day, there’ll be a number of conventional and not-so-conventional – but all free – live events taking place in villages and towns all over the state, with Dublin and Limerick hosting hub events. The Dublin event will take place in The Button Factory from 8pm and feature performances from Slide, Fidil and Breandán Begley and Caomhín Ó Raghallaigh.

Limerick's St John's Church will host The Greg Felton Quartet and special guests from 2pm, and the concert will be broadcast live on The JK Ensemble.

Elsewhere, there’ll be performances of music of all genres in Sligo, Wexford, Waterford, Cork and more, while composer George Higgs plans to travel around Dublin on his “Joculator” – a bicycle that makes music. See lovelivemusic.ie.
