Pop corner: Brit spears the drum machine beat

Also: Bieber’s mum comes through; Charli xcx give out on emojis; Taylor makes no apologies

Track of the week

Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea - Pretty Girls
For those expecting a Problem refit, this collab will take you by surprise. Channelling Britney's deep cut Do Something, Pretty Girls has a 1980s twist, with a sing- talking Britney and drum machine beats. The attitude in Brit's voice, and Iggy's "can u not" rap, make it pop.

Hero of the week is Justin Bieber's mum. In a post on Instagram, Justin credited her with ending his "stupid phase". He wrote, "This woman taught me everything I know, how to love how to be compassionate how to be strong when the only thing u wanna be is weak how to stand when all you want to do is fall. If it wasn't for this woman lets just say I would have had a way LONGER stupid phase."

Heroes of the week are people who misuse emojis, according to Charli xcx. "Use emojis wisely," Charli told Q magazine. "There's nothing that annoys me more than when people don't think their emojis through."

Taylor Swift isn't worried by her squeaky- clean past, she told Elle magazine. "As far as the need to rebel against the idea of you, or the image of you: Like, I feel no need to burn down the house I built by hand. I can make additions to it. I can redecorate. But I built this. And so I'm not going to sit there and say, 'Oh, I wish I hadn't had corkscrew-curly hair and worn cowboy boots and sundresses to awards shows when I was 17; I wish I hadn't gone through that fairy-tale phase where I just wanted to wear princess dresses to awards shows every single time.'"
