Track of the week: United State of Pop 2014 (Do What You Wanna Do) by DJ Earworm.
As is tradition in Pop Corner Towers, we welcome the new year by bidding farewell to the one just gone. This year’s best-of mash-up is a confused affair, not quite knowing how to sum up a disparate year of bangers.Themes we can spot? Self-determination, a refusal to look back and, erm, bottoms.
Buckle up for 2015 so, pop fans.
Hero of the week goes to Demi Lovato who, speaking of bottoms, told Allure: "What makes me feel sexy is being able to rock no makeup wherever I go. Also, wearing pants that showcase my beautiful assets. It's my butt. I love my butt. Hopefully it stays that way, cause this ain't going anywhere. I really started to accept my body when the trend started becoming less about super skinny models that was completely unattainable for anybody to have. Kim Kardashian, say whatever you want about her, but she has revolutionised what's accepted with curves nowadays." Good woman, Demi.
Zeros of the week are 5 Seconds of Summer, who betrayed our pop trust and spoke to Rock Sound magazine about . . . rock music. "We love that some of our fans are following rock music and discovering new bands," they said. "We've never really sought approval or any type of recognition because in time people will grow to understand us. We'll always defend what we believe in, but we've learned it's more effective to do that through actions."
