Track of the week: I Can Be Somebody by Erin McCarley
There's not much we know about Erin, but this husky post-break up banger makes us want to find out more. A brief Google search tells us she's from Nashville, and she's also pretty good on twitter (@erinmccarley). Though the lyrics are teary ("I know I can be somebody/ be somebody to love"), the marching-band drums and synths rise up behind her voice like a heartbeat, making you think, "D'you know what? Everything is going to be okay."
Hero of the week is Perrie Little Mix. She gave Cosmopolitan the best break-up advice: "Have that little moment when you're in your room and you cry. Eat some crappy food – chocolate and ice cream and popcorn. Then, once you've chowed down, you'll perk up. You feel like shit, [but] then, once you pass that stage, surround yourself with positive people. You get your girlfriends, you go out, party, you enjoy life."
In slightly odd pop pairing news, Westlife's Shane Filan and Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle have teamed up. Shane tweeted: "So pleased @NadineCoyleNow joined me in the studio to record #ICouldBe for my new album!" Meanwhile, Nadine told the Mirror: "I'm a huge fan of Shane and used to love listening to his songs growing up. I love the track we've done and can't wait for us to perform it live."
Zero of the week is Niall Horan's right foot. Alas, poor Nialler has hurt his foot, but he's not quite sure how. On stage in Montreal he told the crowd: "I fractured my foot. I don't know how I did it. I woke up from the show the other day, and had a pain in my foot. I went to get an X-ray, and found out I have a fracture in my foot. I don't know how." We'll send a "get well soon" fruit basket to the hospital post haste.
