Its not just Trinity College that can stage massive shindigs on their campus – NUI Maynooth is taking a leaf from the Dublin university by hosting their biggest on-campus event to date.

The Gathering takes place next Wednesday, March 3rd, and will feature what organisers describe as “the coming together of people in an act of music, dance, performance, noise, laughter, movement and self-gratification.”

On the mini-festival bill are The Magic Numbers and The View, as well as Irish acts such as Mundy, The Coronas, Duke Special, Neosupervital, Grand Pocket Orchestra and more,

while one of the outdoor stages will even host the ever-popular Silent Disco.

Event co-ordinator Shea McNelis said that it was high time that a university outside of Dublin staged a high-profile event. “I think it’s the future of university events in Ireland,” he said. “This is the festival generation, and students now expect a higher class of student activity.”

Unlike the Trinity Ball, The Gathering is open to non-students and staff of the college, with tickets available from Ticketmaster at €45.

On a related note, the line-up for the Trinity Ball (which takes place on April 16th) has been announced, and will feature sets by Dizzee Rascal, Mystery Jets, Uffie, Mr Hudson, Jape, Digitalism, Fred Falke and more.
