Jah Shaka’s visits to Ireland are few and far between, which makes the sound scientist’s appearance at Dub Conference 3, alongside Revelation Sound and Dub Investigation, one to savour.

Producer, artist, label owner and the man with heaviest sound system on the planet, Shaka (pictured) has long been one of the more influential roots and dub practitioners. He began with the Freddie Cloudburst sound system in the early 1970s before venturing off with his own sound systems around a rake of London venues. In the intervening years, Shaka became a lauded dub ambassador, someone who sees the sound system as more than just a means of providing good times for the masses.

His label has released tracks by Max Romeo, Bim Sherman and Johnny Clark, while the Jah Shaka Foundation worked with community groups, clinics, schools and radio stations in Ghana.
