You’d be forgiven for thinking that Norah Jones was all lightness and fluffiness. After all, about a decade ago she entered the fray as the archetypal supper club jazz chanteuse – her shtick was super smooth jazz/pop. She stuck to that for a few years but, to give Jones credit, she has slowly upped the ante by delving a little bit further into territory that, while still not scaring small children, at least moves her a bit outside the typical comfort zones.
A case in point is her latest album, the thematic Little Broken Hearts, which chronicles a falling out of love across songs that bear not only the hallmarks of producer Danger Mouse but also of a singer who isn’t afraid to really bare her soul.
There is little doubt that in concert Jones will perform a selection of material from her several albums, but we bet the show will be less smooth than you think.
This Belfast gig isn’t Jones’s only Irish show, by the way – she also plays Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre, on Friday, September 7th.
