Amazingly, John Lydon’s PiL has never landed in Dublin up until now, but here they are – one of post-punk’s most challenging and often extraordinary bands. Extraordinary because they fused so many influences into such a short song-space; challenging because some of their work is deliberately obtuse, in your face, avant- noise and irritating.
Towering above the music, though, is Lydon, who, like PiL’s music, divides opinion. Despite his appearances on I’m a Celebrity and those telly adverts for butter, Lydon remains one of rock’s most galvanising frontmen.
What to expect? A range of stuff, from muscular pop (Public Image Ltd) to impenetrable dub/noise (Death Disco). What to expect? The unexpected? That, too.
