Take That: III

Genre: Pop
Label: Polydor

Four have become three for Take That’s seventh album, but without being unkind to the recently absconded Jason Orange, it makes little difference to the sound or style of pop’s ultimate renaissance men.

There's no time to sulk; songs like Let in the Sun and If You Want It ooze positivity and a go-getter attitude and even the ballads Flaws and Portrait are not particularly dour. There's an EDM-lite flavour to Lovelife, I Like It buzzes with a Goldfrapp-like bassline and the electronic r'n'b tweak of Give You My Love is a highlight.

Yet while Take That have proven themselves in catchy tunes in recent years, there are no particularly original ones here. It’s an album that’s exceptionally even in tone, but also one that chooses formula over making any potent statement.
