Macnas Workshop

You can visit the Macnas warehouse in Galway’s industrial estate tonight between 6pm and 9pm to observe the creation of the large puppets and props – from drawing to construction – that are used by the street theatre company. See galwayculturenight.com

Choral recital

Open Mic

Lifetime Lab

River of Imagination, a site-specific piece of theatre in conjunction with Red Sandstone Varied Productionsand directed by Yvonne Coughlan runs between 5pm and 9pm. It combines performance art, improvisation and information telling the past and present of Cork’s old waterworks. See lifetimelab.ie

City Hall Cinema

One of Cork’s oldest buildings will showcase local film makers as well as footage dating back to the early 20th century. Directors Mike Hannon (My Beamish Boy) and Conal Creedon (Burning of Cork) will introduce their work. Screenings run from 5pm until 9.30pm

Music and dance

Global Trad Underground hosts a concert at Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise from 8pm. Musicians include John Davidson with dancer Aisling Walsh. Historic Walls

At 5pm, Dan Tietzsch-Tyler who is a specialist in the area of archaeological and historical reconstruction drawing, will lead a walk around the town’s historic walls. The walk will take approximately 90 minutes and 13 stretches of the city wall will be explored. Meet outside King John’s Castle visitor centre.

Garter Lane

Something of a coup by this local theatre to be able to offer performance poet John Cooper Clarke this evening. Clarke is a cult figure known for his satirical, political and funny verse. Pre-booking essential. Performance begins at 10pm.
