Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands

There’s no two ways about it: Patrick Kelleher is odd. Comparisons to Ariel Pink aren’t quite accurate, although the 20-something Dubliner operates on a similar lo-fi plain. The glorious hiss and crackle of his second album is filtered through an array of DIY effects and translucent vocals, while the blurry synthesiser and portentous basslines on several songs sound like the antithesis of the polished, overproduced glamour of the 1980s.

Golden Syrup

is too strange to be universally appealing, yet there’s something so deeply intriguing about it that you will keep returning in a bid to unravel its mysteries. Its bewitching, off-kilter ambience also means that it sounds best when listened to through headphones in the darkest, stillest part of the night – if you dare. See patrickkelleher. tumblr.com
