Fans of crackling beats and low-slung electronica will probably have already made the acquaintance of Hudson Mohawke. The Glasgow producer had gained lots of attention as a member of the Lucky Me collective and Heralds Of Change before his Polyfolk Dance mini-album dropped earlier this year.
This Warp release showed just why Mohawke is up there with Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer and Rustie when it comes to crafting wonky beats. Over the course of six bobby-
dazzlers, the one-time turntable champ cut and sliced sounds into dizzy, wobbly, seemingly haphazard but truly on-point creations.
Naturally, the “future of hip-hop production” acclaim has been coming non-stop since. Aside from Mohawke cutting loose, tonight’s Revolution at Pogo grandstanding also features his Heralds Of Change buddy Mike Slott, Mamimo Motto and DJ Scope, while Berlin-based jock DJ Steffi and Simon Resoul rock out with house and techno in the basement.
