Deep Throat, the notorious 1972 US porn movie, will be shown to an Irish cinema audience for the first time next weekend, writes Michael Dwyer
It is scheduled for screenings at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin on July 9th and 10th at 7pm, to coincide with next Friday's release of the documentary, Inside Deep Throat, which examines the phenomenon of the film, which cost $25,000 and made over $60 million.
Linda Lovelace, who plays the central role in Deep Throat, later condemned the film, stating that her husband and manager forced her to make the movie at gunpoint. Lovelace, who died in a car crash three years ago, said: "When you see the movie Deep Throat, you are watching me being raped. It is a crime that my movie is still showing. There was a gun to my head the entire time."
