According to the 2006 census in the Republic, the Presbyterian population increased by 14.1 per cent, from 20,600 in 2002 to 23,500.
By far the greater number of Presbyterians on this island live in Northern Ireland, where they are the largest Protestant denomination and number (according to the 2001 census there) approximately 338,000, or 20.7 per cent of the population.
Official figures for both jurisdictions on the island record that there are a total of approximately 361,500 Presbyterians on the island of Ireland.
