A total of £290,000 was realised by Mealy's at the company's recent auction of rare books and associated material in Dublin. As had been expected, most interest was shown in a copy of the original Proclamation of the Irish Republic, which sold for £27,000. A sum of £14,000 was paid for an 1844 first edition of George Catlin's North American Portfolio, £4,200 for a set of 16 volumes of Edward & Lindley's The Botanical Register and £3,000 for a set of The Botanical Cabinet. A second edition of James Gibbs's A Book of Architecture, dating from 1739, sold for £2,500 and a collection of glass slides by Croker of Waterford, circa 1894-1900, fetched £2,000, the same price as an album of 12 early 19th century Japanese paintings on rice paper.
