The combination of Liz Quin and Carolyn Donnelly's talents always guarantees a strong collection and spring/summer 1998 is no exception. An oriental influence can be detected in some pieces, thanks to a subtle printed gold pattern on voile in shades of blue, terracotta and khaki as well as another border print on certain skirts and dresses with front-wrap detailing and asymetrical hems. Nehru-collared jackets and narrow-legged pants accentuate this eastern theme for evenings; colours here are khaki, rust and plum. As always with Quin & Donnelly, linen plays a strong part in the range, turning up with an iridescent check in muted tones and as a shiny viscose/linen blend. Linen is also used for baggy drawstring pants and shirts, the latter both over-sized and fitted. Linen mixes and pure textured wool are the choice of fabrics for suiting, while striped shiny viscose in subdued shades and patterns provide sheer tops. Plus, there is denim in oversize jackets with big flap pockets.
