Catherine Noonan is a freelance writer, working on her first novel Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, by John Gray (Harper-Collins, £8.99 in UK), is more than just a great title for those who want to understand and be understood by the opposite sex. John Gray seems to have experienced one of those great relationships that most of us believe exist, but which so often elude us. Usually they start off fine, then for no apparent reason go wrong. Men and women do everything else well together, so why have we this difficulty with communication? Ordinary language and its incorrect use, it seems, are the culprits. Simple words like could and would - I wish someone had told me before.
