The 75th birthday of the venerable Savoy Cinema in Dublin, which first opened its doors on November 29th, 1929, will be marked at a gala evening on June 8th - a belated celebration necessitated by the complex's recent €2 million refurbishment.

In the week leading up to this, the cinema will present seven classic movies on consecutive days, when each will have several screenings. This short season kicks off with Citizen Kane on Wednesday next, followed by The Third Man (June 2nd), Some Like It Hot (June 3rd), On the Waterfront (June 4th), Lawrence of Arabia (June 5th), Apocalypse Now Redux (June 6th) and GoodFellas (June 7th). This is a rare, unmissable opportunity to see some great movies where they ought to be seen - on the biggest screen and in the largest cinema auditorium in Ireland, the splendid Savoy 1.
