YEASAYER All Hour Cymbals We Are Free ****
Cosmic psychedelic rock tunes bursting at the seams with possibilities and imagination have earned Brooklyn's Yeasayer heavyweight praise from the blogosphere.
Joining the dots between the Silver Apples and Talking Heads, Yeasayer's shapes and shadows may harken back to arty rock's sepia days, but the band doesn't simply repackage these ingredients into a jerky rock pastiche.
Instead, there's a magnificent sense of space and weirdbeard experimentation to such tunes as Sunrise, while the glorious lilt of 2080 is quite arresting.
More experienced and weather-beaten listeners may mutter the word "progressive" as the album unfolds.
However, don't let such naysaying put you off this mesmeric, expansive and glorious blast of shimmering guitars, sitars, children's choirs, communal chanting and freewheeling out-there soul. www.myspace.com/yeasayer - JIM CARROLL
