Lords of Dogtown Geffen
***
Dogtown and Z Boys, the superb 2001 documentary on the pioneering days of the youth-oriented sport of skateboarding, is the inspiration of the forthcoming Lords of Dogtown, and this soundtrack features in the most early to mid-'70s gonzo rock tracks such as Ted Nugent's Motor City Madhouse, Deep Purple's Space Truckin', Black Sabbath's Iron Man, and rather more forgotten bands such as Foghat and Nazareth. A few tracks (Social Distortion's cover of The Clash's Death or Glory, Sparklehorse's cover of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, and Iggy Pop's Success) seem out of wack, but overall this is one of the most pertinent and referential rock OSTs in quite some time. And now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for my daily backside heelflip fakie nosegrind. www.lordsofdogtown.com
