Recession be damned. That’s the message coming from the Linenhall Arts Centre, which embarks on an ambitious series of summer concerts this week featuring some of the best traditional musicians in the country.

Enigmatic fiddler John Carty (pictured) inaugurates The Full Irishon Wednesday, with his own sublime repertoire, drawn largely from the Connacht tradition. Further on down the road, hips will swivel and necks threaten to dislocate amid a line-up that includes Dublin piper Mick O'Brien, multi- instrumentalist Emer Mayock, piper Tommy Keane, flute player Harry Bradley, peerless guitarist Arty McGlynn, harpist Laoise Kelly and sean nós dancer Seosamh Ó Neachtain.

The Full Irishwill also feature a photographic exhibition by Danny Diamond that sets out to celebrate Irish traditional music in all its continual state of flux. Blue-sky thinking for a blue skies time of year. A series not to be missed by anyone in the west with a yen for some seriously fine music.
