It is testament to the confidence and conviction of Sligo's Blue Raincoat Theatre Company that they are prepared to take on Shakespeare's The Tempest as part of their ongoing explorations into the vocabulary of theatre. Under the direction of Niall Henry, form and physical theatre are typically and effectively to the fore, although there are occasions when Shakespeare's language runs the risk of being reduced to little more than narrative.

There are a number of brave gender reversals, some of which work extremely well - Caliban as portrayed by Liz Bracken and John Ryan as a strange, otherwordly Miranda - while others run the risk of creating confusion as a cast of nine attempts to flesh out the play's substantial dramatis per- sonae. Against an effective, minimal set and props, the able cast embraces its task with energy and commitment, with Fiona McGeown, John Carty, Ciaran McCauley and Liz Bracken particularly notable in various roles.

Until April 4th.
