FUZZY LOGIC
John Field Room, NCH Wed 8.15pm 15 01-4170000
As the Kilkenny Arts festival winds down, two especially interesting groups will be heard in Dublin over the next few days. The acclaimed and award-winning young British trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer Tom Arthurs, above, will join the brilliant young US alto saxophonist and composer Loren Stillman to guest with pianist Justin Carroll, bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Sean Carpio at JJ’s tomorrow night. By any standard this is an exceptional group and, in an evening of original compositions presented by members of the quintet, the music is unlikely to disappoint.
Both Stillman and Arthurs had already forged some significant connections with Irish jazz musicians long before this concert was mooted and Arthurs’s links, in particular, will be underlined next Wednesday when he guests with composer Dylan Rynhart’s Fuzzy Logic band at the launch of the group’s second CD in the John Field Room. The trumpeter performed with the band on the recording of the new album, which was made under the direction of the noted European pianist and composer Florian Ross, who will also be here to conduct the band at the launch concert.
