PATHS OF GLORY
Kubrick Season, Light House Cinema, Dublin 3.30pm
During the First World War the ambitious General Mireau (George MacReady) and the noble Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas, above) both know that orders to “take” the heavily fortified Ant Hill will make for a suicide mission. After the bloodbath it’s left to Dax to defend the French troops who, having witnessed the slaughter of their comrades, refused to leave the trenches. Arguably Kubrick’s best film. TB
