In her catalogue text, Cliodhna Shaffrey notes that “drawing is not a window on to the world, but a device for understanding our place in the universe”. That captures the spirit of Joanna Kidney’s finely wrought drawings and paintings. In this show she includes her own “cabinet of curiosities”, personal treasures that illuminate her view of the world as an interconnected entity, from the smallest to the largest scales.

Bassist, composer and internationally renowned pedagogue Ronan Guilfoyle has travelled a long and often winding road since he was first turned on to the possibilities of the four stringed instrument by Jack Bruce and Cream back in the 1970s. In a rare home appearance, Things We Like sees him revisit that music with some close – and very talented – musical associates, including saxophonist Michael Buckley, pianist Izumi Kamura and sensitive Tipperary guitarist Joe O’Callaghan.

PUNK JAZZ

Schnellertollermeier + Twinkranes
Twisted Pepper, 8pm, €12

Swiss power trio Schnellertollermeier (above) were one of the hits of the 12 Points Festival in 2014 with their backwoods blend of jazz, punk and kraut-rock. Now signed to ultra-hip US label Cuneiform, they’re about to take over the world – or at least that small corner of it that cares about where creative music is headed in the 21st century. Local psych-prog rockers Twinkranes complete the bill.
