The Irish Times, in conjunction with Gareth O'Callaghan's Upbeat programme on RTE Radio 1, offers readers the chance to win a trip to Elvis Presley's hometown, Memphis, Tennessee, for the commemoration events to mark the 20th anniversary of the singer's death on August 16th.
The four-day trip for two individual winners will include a tour of Graceland, a visit to the famed Sun Studio where Presley recorded his first hits, and attendance at a show in which Elvis will "perform" via video technology with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and former band members.
There will be daily runner-up prizes of the latest Elvis CD presentation set Platinum - A Life in Music. The competition runs from today until August 14th.
To enter, write in about 300 words what Elvis meant to you and how you were affected by the news of his death. Entries should be sent to The Presley Competition, Upbeat, RTE Radio 1, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. Entries can also be e-mailed to upbeat@rte.ie.
Upbeat is broadcast on Radio 1 from 11.05 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
The judging panel will include Irish Times critic Joe Jackson.
