But baby it’s cold outside: autumn winter lingerie

Arnotts autumn winter lingerie preview was a bedroom show-stopper

Sipping on green juice and avoiding the muffins, while watching beautiful women modelling even more beautiful lingerie, is an interesting way to start a Wednesday.  Ireland’s fashion set cosied down in the bed department of Arnotts early this morning for the autumn winter preview, showcasing some of next season’s luxurious and enticing lingerie trends.

To the backdrop of a bedroom most of us can only lust after, the show began with model Sarah Morrissey breezing onto set in a two piece by Huit 8, trying on jewellery and playing with a vintage stereo.  Throughout the rest of the show, models in bare feet and headpieces showcased designers such as Wacoal, Passionata, Mimi Holliday, Chantelle and Maison Lejaby.

The trends of the season didn't offer up many surprises. Lingerie’s favourite colour and fabric, black lace, was a firm favourite among all the designers. The lace was delicate and intricate, often mirroring the squiggled lines, and zip detailing we are seeing coming through in AW14 outerwear.

Normal women will be happy to know that briefs were fuller in size, some verging on high-waisted, while bra styles varied from balcony to full cups. Sheer panels also appeared in briefs and bras alike, as well as scalloping and coloured trims.

Pretty jewel tones in blue (Chantelle set, left) and purple were shown by brands Passionata and Fantasie and a few show-stopping pink pieces were also in the mix (see the Mimi Holliday set above). As Rachel Armstrong, Lingerie Buyer at Arnotts said “Gone are the days when lingerie was merely a functional under layer and here are the days when we show it off to the world.”  Although, whether you should be showing your kickers to the office is up for debate.

Nonetheless, the seductive show certainly succeeded in getting Ireland’s fashionistas excited about their winter lingerie wardrobes.  This journalist’s personal favourite? The dark green Huit set with red trim (left)... and it also happens to be my birthday at the end of this month.
