SQUARE DEAL

Known for his “gentlemen’s accessories”, notably bowties, UK-based Carlow dandy Rory Hutton has just launched a new range of printed silk pocket squares. Inspired by children’s storybook illustrations of the 1920s and the fantasy of faraway places, they are original, colourful and the one of an Indian elephant would certainly accelerate the look of a tweed jacket. Hutton, a latter-day Beau Brummel, who is a graduate of LSAD and has just taken a year out to complete further studies at NCAD, collects Victorian ephemera that sparks the inspiration for many of his designs. His current collection of bowties “for summer days spent by the river” includes striped seersucker numbers and others in check Irish linen. roryhutton.co.uk

PARIS, D4

A little bit of Paris came to Donnybrook recently with the opening of a new boutique called Electra featuring some of the brands favoured by the French capital's most stylish insiders. It's the brainchild of an adventurous Dubliner, Sadhbh Fahy, who lived in San Francisco and Madrid before settling in Paris where she has lived for the past 15 years. The shop has a selection of footwear, jewellery, clothing, accessories and ceramics, including Vanessa Bruno bags, Aurelie Bidermann's nature inspired jewellery, clothes from Maison Kitsune, printed scarves from Paris-based Danish designers Epice, jeans from APC and white ceramics from Astier de Villatte. Fahy worked in the music industry in Paris with Madonna, Enya, The Corrs and others before moving to Apple as an event manager in the Louvre, but has now moved back to Ireland with her French husband and two small children. The shop, at 12 Donnybrook Road, is usually open from 9.30am-5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday, but will close today at 3.30pm and reopen on Wednesday at 9.30am.

NEW GOLD DREAM

Ever thought of upcycling a sentimental piece of jewellery whose design is outdated? Ann Chapman of Stonechat Jewellers can remodel an old favourite and her approach is to modernise while respecting the past. Three years after launching her contemporary jewellery collection, Chapman is now recycling old gold and gemstones for customers who may have inherited or bought pieces that remain unworn. She can design and create new engagement ring and wedding ring sets, pendants, earrings, bracelets and brooches. Visit stonechatjewellers.ie or their shop in the Westbury Mall, Dublin2. DMcQ
