This week we meet Ryan Lanz, a Donegal-based skateboarder. We chatted to him about how skating and music have influenced his style. Mixing vintage sportswear and high street staples to create a great street look.
Tell us about your outfit?
I’m wearing my light blue Adidas Originals zip-up, I got it in a reclaimed vintage store while I was in Germany.

I love retro sports stuff and often prefer it to the modern stuff. Its harder to find but the quality is much better and I find the designs much more interesting.
I love my white plastic rain jacket, I was after one of these for a while and couldn’t find one for less than €100 and ended up stumbling across this one in H&M on sale. I love it because it’s really light, I skate so it’s perfect for keeping the rain off in this Irish weather.
I got my Reebok classics when I was in South Africa last year.
How would you describe your personal style?
Maybe I stick out from other people because I try to wear bright colours as opposed to wearing black all the time.
I listen to a lot of grime and punk rock, I guess those genres of music stand for not conforming to what everyone is doing. I don’t generally follow brands, if I like something, I’ll buy it.
I get most of my fashion inspiration from the people I’m listening to, at the moment I’m really into Danny Brown.
What are you most looking forward to about this summer, in fashion and entertainment?
I hope to be working for an airline this summer so I’m excited to be travelling around the world and seeing different places, on my layovers I’m looking forward to exploring new skate parks in different countries while I have some time off.
I’m originally from South Africa where hopefully I’ll be able to attend a few concerts there with my family. Like everyone, I’m most excited about the festival season and being able to wear whatever you want for three days!
