The new season's palettes feature some beautiful colour combinations, writes Phyl Clarke
Well I simply can't go another week without drawing your attention to the new palettes adorning my dressing table at the moment. I'd just feel too guilty keeping them all to myself. The cosmetic companies have outdone themselves this season with beautiful colour combinations and designs. Just look at them, aren't they irresistible? Little boxes of gorgeousness just waiting to take us in to the new season. During my morning shower I should be giving some thought to preparing a nutritionally balanced breakfast for my family, or wondering what's left in the fridge for combining into a gourmet dinner à la Nigella. I should be, but instead my head is filled with the dazzle of choice that awaits me. Of course I must wait to see what colour clothes I'll be wearing today before selecting my palette and brush - but that's the horns of another dilemma.
Stilaconstantly set the standard with their beautifully realised designs. If you're quick you may still catch their limited-edition Fall Fantasy palettes, €43 which take the biscuit for sheer versatility. Housed in a velvet embossed case, they come in three colourways with eye and cheek shades. I had hardly time to recover when their Smoky Eyes Palette arrived on my desk. This is what I call giving the customer what they what, and what they want is to know how to create the smoky eye. Press the button inside the lid and a recording talks you through application of the four muted colours. Ingenious.
It's hard to follow a talking palette, but for sheer beauty Chanel's "4 Camelias" lip palette is almost too gorgeous to use, comprising four wearable shades presented as flower shapes. Totally feminine and gorgeous.
Investing in a Bobbi Brownpalette is always money well spent, as the ultra flattering shades will be used to the last scrap. She is offering a selection of metallic hued palettes to compliment the season's trends. If you're looking for something more classic the Best Sellers palette is a two-tier affair featuring the range's best-selling lip and eye shades for. Go Bobbi!
Lancome's Destiny Cube certainly has the wow factor in a hexagonal shaped maroon case which houses eye and lip colours when you open separate doors. Enchanting.
Dior's five-colour shadow sets constantly top the polls for their colours and wearability, and their smart leather clutch palette will not disappoint. In a choice of two winter colourways for eyes and lips. Pretty and practical.
Those clever people at Boots No7have created a vintage appeal Eye Palette for Autumn that comes in a compact case with lilac, green and blue shades for a muted 1950s look. Girly magic.
