The elite top châteaux of Bordeaux have always been popular here, although in recent years, prices have risen dramatically.
However, the less expensive end has been struggling a bit against the richer new world wines. Is this about to change? Dunnes Stores certainly think so. They will shortly launch an impressive range of wines from Bordeaux, featuring almost 40 new wines. From September 3rd to 23rd, it will run a major promotion, featuring selected wines at half-price, with others discounted by 20 to 40 per cent.
My own favourites included a refreshing Château Barat Blanc 2006 (€14.99, down from €19.99), the classically styled Château Grand Jour 2005 at €9.09, down from €12.99), the deliciously fruity Château Lamothe-Vincent 2006 (€11.38, down from €16.99) and the very impressive Château Lagrave Aubert 2005 (€11.54, down from €16.49), with its ripe 2005 fruits.
Further up the price-scale, there are plenty of the top names, including Château Batailley 2002, Château Lynch-Moussas 2003, and Le Connétable de Château Talbot 2005.
